ChinaXiv is a multidisciplinary, open-access preprint repository established by the National Science Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2016. It accelerates scientific communication by enabling the rapid release of pre-publication research across a wide array of natural science disciplines. With robust metrics—over 44,000 hosted preprints, 115 million visits, and 36 million downloads—ChinaXiv plays a vital role in enhancing research visibility and access. Embracing open science principles, it combines preliminary scholarly review, open commentary, and support for later journal publication. Built on scalable infrastructure with OAI-PMH support, and operated under a non-profit model, ChinaXiv also offers innovative features such as discipline-specific sub-platforms and open peer review pilots, reinforcing its position as a foundational component of China’s scholarly communication ecosystem.
